Look Fantastic Advent Calendar 2017 – Day 1

In addition to my Joik advent calendar (see review of Day 1 and Day 2), I also treated myself to a Look Fantastic advent calendar; I bought this before I knew the Joik one would be an option! I’m not planning to blog about every item in this calendar but will share some of the items if they’re from cruelty free brands. The item I got in day 1 was a full-size Illamasqua Lava Lips Marbled Lipstick in Vixen.

IMG_6726I haven’t had many Illamasqua products as it’s a fairly luxury brand, but whenever I have tried items I’ve always had a positive opinion of them. I’m not much of a lipstick wearer though so confess I wasn’t overly excited about this item. Until I opened it. Wow! OK so it’s a bit gimicky but how beautiful is the marble effect?! It claims the ‘carefully matched colour duos effortlessly blend together on application to create a new vibrant lip colour with a smooth, satin finish’. Hmmmm. I’m not so sure. I think it’s just a case of the white shade lightening it slightly. Either way, I love the look of it and I actually quite like the colour of the lipstick on my lips too. I’m not normally a red lipstick lover but this one is more subtle and not too bright. It’s more of a sort of raspberry red and isn’t the sort that makes your teeth look yellow! It feels quite moisturising and I’d agree it gives a smooth satin finish. It doesn’t seem to dry down though so I don’t imagine it lasts so well (I wore it in the house for an hour or so to test it out and it lasted fine but I don’t think it would last when eating/drinking). I can see me wearing this over the Christmas period – I’m look forward to having an excuse to wear it!

The Illamasqua Lava Lips Marbled Lipstick is worth £20 though this shade is an exclusive one for the advent calendar and sadly I’m struggling to find other shades in stock anywhere to buy (EBay might be your best bet if this is something you’re interested in). I do think this would make an amazing gift (though it’s always a risk to buy a lipstick I think as it’s such a personal choice!).
